"I'm so proud of this project. Firstly, it is the first time that Dolce & Gabbana have put together a coffee table style book of images for one of their male muses and the first British (maybe even international), male model to have this privilege. Secondly, looking back over all the work that we have done together whilst compiling the book has been an amazing recollection of memories and fun times - and so I'm looking forward to the book release as a kind of celebration of everyone's combined dedication, commitment and hard work. I couldn't have imagined in my wildest dreams when I first start working together with Dolce and Gabbana over 6 years ago, that I would ever have my own book. For Domenico and Stefano to consider me for this is a great, great honour." Visit : Dolce & Gabbana
The players, photographed by Mariano Vivanco in a vintage style changing room, display healthy and athletic bodies sculpted through rigorous training sessions and discipline.
Uomini - Dolce&Gabbana, pictures by Mariano Vivanco. The images of the book, published by Rizzoli, are inspired by masculine archetypes, modern Adonis reminiscing of Greek and Roman traditions: the hero, the soldier and the sportsman. The volume, released as a complement to all publications printed as corollary to Dolce&Gabbana Men’s 20th anniversary, depicts the male body in yet another perspective: as a model worth of inspiration, a beauty ideal which transcends times, trends and cultures. Looking at the images shot by Mariano Vivanco, both in black and white and in colour, what is noticeable is not just an array of well-known faces from all international catwalks, but a snapshot of Mankind. Their perfect bodies and their tensed muscles, sculpted by training and discipline, are almost reminiscent of an anatomy manual, and yet they are not losing one ounce of sensuousness and grace. The last section of the book is dedicated to Tony Ward. This book will go to support Project EUPLOOS (www.linesonline.org).
The Italian national flag features on all the garments in the collection: tracksuits, short jackets, polos, vests, shorts, sweats, T-shirts and trousers. Materials are lightweight, comfortable and technical, a ribbed jersey being one example, for a clean-cut look and longer-lasting articles.
Dolce & Gabanna are synonymous with glamour, sensuality, virility and masculinity, but most importantly, the Italian label has always been about celebrating the lineage of fine Italian craftsmanship and first-rate clothing. In a new book, Photographer Mariano Vivanco blurs the line between blatant sexual appeal and admiration and reference to classical Greek and Roman sculpture, while finding the balance of artistry and desire. Vivanco, shooting in both black and white and color, explores designers’ Dominico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana’s fascination with historical images of male archetypes and idolatry including the warrior, the sportsman and the hero, while also pay homage to a certain type of physical male perfection. |
